"School (not so safe) Safe Zones" HB 311 - Effective January 1st, 2025
Delaware House Bill 311, aims to amend Title 11 of the Delaware Code concerning Safe School Zones by extending firearm possession restrictions to include college and university campuses. The bill defines a "College or University Safe Zone" as any building, structure, athletic field, sports stadium, or real property owned, operated, leased, or rented by public or private institutions of higher education. It also encompasses motor vehicles owned, operated, leased, or rented by these institutions. Violating this statute by knowingly possessing a firearm within a College or University Safe Zone is classified as a Class A misdemeanor. Exceptions to this prohibition apply to police officers, qualified law-enforcement officers, constables, and commissioned security guards acting in their official capacities.

Our Take: It's been shown time and time again that creating "Gun Free Zones" does nothing to stop those with ill-intent. This is a clear over reach and will prevent those that can legally posses a gun from being able to protect themselves and others. All these type of laws do is create areas where good, law-abiding gun owners could get criminally charged for safely practicing their Second Amendment rights. We encourage everyone to be above reproach and act in accordance to the law, but please let your voices be heard and push back against unconstitutional laws such as this one. - Zac
